Basohli Bridge River
Atal Setu Bridge Dunera Basohli is the first cable-stayed bridge that was procured under a design-build contract in India by the Border Roads Organization of the Ministry of Defense. The bridge passes through the River Ravi and connects the states of Punjab and J&K, forming a critical link for the communities on both sides of the river and also as emergency response access to the Kashmir Valley.
McElhanney created the detailed design and was responsible for construction engineering and site support of Basohli Dam Developing this cost-effective design that was suited to the difficult site conditions was built smartly.
As the Basoli Pull is in a high seismic zone having strong winds of 140 km/h, McElhanney’s team has developed design features that minimize construction materials, improve constructability, enhance aerodynamic stability, and reduce seismic response.
The bridge has reduced the travel time from Basohli in Jammu & Kashmir to Duneran in Punjab by over 4 hours and has provided the opportunity for isolated communities.
